True first edition copy. An account of the Boer War of 1880-1, together with some preliminary chapters referring to the history of the South African Colonies and Republics up to this period. A detailed, critical review by Norris Newman, who spent time with the Boer forces. Externally , the spine is slightly faded and there is minor shelf wear to the extremities. Publishers' original maroon cloth covered boards have some small tears and there is some scuffing to the front and back boards. The binding is tight. Internally, some minor foxing to the inside front pages and otherwise pages are clean and bright. The inside of the back cover shows some minor water staining. The inside of the back cover has a pocket which includes the original large military foldout map. The map is in very good to excellent condition. Overall condition is good.
