1st Edition. Historical account of the Anglo-Boer War, focusing on the early part of the Second Boer War, detailing the conflict's origins, key battles, and strategic context. Mahan analyses the military strategies and geographical factors influencing the war, providing a narrative from the beginning of hostilities to the fall of Pretoria. There are 18 full page colour illustrations and 34 full page black and white illustrations. Numerous photos throughout which provide a fascinating insight to the war, soldiers on both sides and the surrounding towns, cities and battlefields. A must have for any collector of books on the Boer War.

Externally, original olive green cloth covered boards with faded gilt lettering and design on the front cover. There are some marks and rubbing to the boards and extremities, with bumping to cover corners and spine ends.Internally, the front blank page gutter shows some slight separation of the binding and is slightly loose but still holding together. Some pages have minor tears and all pages are slightly tanned but appear to have no foxing. The test blocks are clean and in very good condition. The back board, inside the cover and blank page gutter shows some separation and is slightly loose. The book is heavy and the looseness of the front and back covers is common with this and other copies of this book. Photos provided reflect the condition in addition to the above description. Overall condition is very good.
