First edition, hardcover with dust jacket, in very good condition. The Africa House: the True Story of an English Gentleman and His African Dream, is a fascinating story about Stewart Gore-Browne, an eccentric aristocrat, who was driven to build the house of his dreams in a remote part of Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) near a lake, called Shiwa Ngandu by the local tribe. The book explores Gore-Browne’s childhood, his relationship with his aunt Ethel, who helped fund his dream and his subsequent marriage to Lorna. The book is based on extensive diaries and letters and is a true account of one man’s dream, and the trials and tribulations experienced against the backdrop of a country shedding colonialism and entering independence. In death he was accorded a state funeral by the Zambian President Kenneth Kaunda. Externally, dust jacket with a picture of the Africa House and a child sitting on the steps. Publisher's blue board covers are in excellent condition with very little wear and binding is tight. Internally, pages are clean and bright.
