1st edition, hardcover in good condition. Roosevelt's own account and famous work, on African big game hunting, chronicling the Smithsonian-Roosevelt African Expedition to collect specimens for the new Natural History Museum. He undertook the expedition after leaving office as President. 11,400 specimens were shipped back from the expedition and took Smithsonian naturalists over eight years to catalogue. Numerous plates, photos, maps, text photos & illustrations throughout. Externally, original khaki-coloured publisher's cloth covered boards with gilt lettering stamped on the spine and upper board with gilt elephant silhouette profile decoration. Top page edges gilt, fore and lower edges untrimmed. Sunning to spine and covers with some markings, and shelf wear to the extremities. Internally, the first few pages have some minor water stains at the top and bottom end with some exposed binding netting but binding is tight. Internally, some mild tanning to pages but no foxing and pages are clean and bright. Photos provided reflect the condition in addition to the above description. Overall condition is good.
